Access Codes and Standards online
---------------------------------

As a local huckster says, "Free is a very good price"! Many state
building, fire, and other codes are made available for free via the
ICC website: http://www.iccsafe.org/Store/Pages/FreeCodes.aspx. You
can view NFPA standards online here:
http://www.nfpa.org/AboutTheCodes/List_of_Codes_and_Standards.asp.

Reviewing your latest state codes online is a relatively painless way
to stay on top of their most recent version.

Of particular note regarding fire protection, IBC/IFC article 907 has
been re-written in the 2009 edition, hence the continuous single
vertical bar. The changes reflect a lot of work to remove
contradictions, repetition, and to move at least a couple of
requirements from NFPA 72 into the building code. For example, the
requirement to provide smoke detection to supervise control equipment
in other-than-continuously-occupied locations and the requirement to
provide at least one manual box even where an exception allows
omission of manual boxes.
