NORTHWEST AFAA NEWS
----------------------------------------------------------------------

From Matt Chaika:

Hello All,

I'm sure this will come as no surprise to most of you, but the City of
Vancouver is facing a budget crisis and is now considering cuts to the
Vancouver Fire Marshal's Office. One of the programs that is sure to
be hit first is the Fire Protection System Endorsement Program. As a
group, the NWAFAA has been a supporter of this program from the very
beginning, as it aids in ridding the fire alarm industry of those
contractors that have no business designing, installing, testing and
maintaining fire protection equipment.

It is imperative that we do what we can to lend support to the VFMO.
In addition to the endorsement program, there will certainly be
staffing shortages, possibly including but not limited to plan
reviewers, new and existing building inspections and testing/inspection
enforcement, surely all with no significant reduction of permitting
fees.

I am asking each of you, on behalf of NWAFAA and/or your current
employer, to contact both the City Manager and the Assistant City
Manager at their email addresses below to voice your concerns about
what impact any cuts to the VFMO will have on your business, the
contracting community in general, and the overall safety of those
people who live, work or do business in the buildings of Vancouver.

Vancouver City Manager - mailto:pat.mcdonnell@ci.vancouver.wa.us
Vancouver Asst City Manager - mailto:betsy.williams@ci.vancouver.wa.us

Please forward this to every contractor that you know that works in
the fire protection industry, as it will affect them as well.

Thank you.
