My brand new laptop died recently as a result of Microsoft Vista.
Over the past 4 months it struggled with drivers, printers, and well,
everything. Whenever it went into vapor-lock, Lenovo (IBM) and I were
able to resuscitate it. One day it automagically downloaded a VGA
driver from Microsoft and choked. We thought it just needed another
Heimlich maneuver but it wasn't working. We panicked and considered,
oh my gosh, re-imaging the hard drive! The re-image didn't work.
All we got was "BOOTMGR missing". I don't think the computer wanted
to go on with Vista. The tech support dude and I tried and tried to
instill a glimmer of hope but alas, it was in vain. We came to the
realization that a downgrade is the only viable option. It turns out
that Windows XP is Vista's biggest competitor.
The reason why I'm sharing this with you is twofold:
1) During the several triages, I may have missed your email message.
2) Friends don't let friends install Vista.
