NFPA 70 ARTICLE 760 SUMMARY
---------------------------

When installing a fire alarm system we have choices regarding *general* wiring
methods and materials.

NPLFA
-----
When choosing non- power limited fire alarm wiring methods and materials we can
choose to follow the requirements of NFPA 70 Chapter 1-4 using solid or stranded
copper conductors with an approved jacket material, installed in a raceway or;

We can use jacketed multiconductor non- power limited fire alarm cable marked
for the application; NPLF, NPLFR, NPLFP, using solid or stranded conductors no
smaller than 18 AWG, installed in a raceway or fished within walls and ceilings,
or on the surface of walls and ceilings as long as it is protected within 7' of
the floor by building construction or by a solid guard.

PLFA
----
When choosing power limited fire alarm wiring methods and materials we can
follow either of the two NPLFA methods listed above or;

We can use jacketed multiconductor power limited fire alarm cable marked for the
application; FPL, FPLR, FPLP, using solid or stranded conductors no smaller than
26 AWG, installed in a raceway or fished within walls and ceilings, or on the
surface of walls and ceilings as long as it is protected within 7' of the floor
by building construction or by a solid guard.

Aside from these general methods, we're required to abide by these additional
requirements always:
 o Securing and Supporting
 o Circuit Identification
 o Workmanlike Manner
 o Access to Electrical Equipment
 o Abandoned Fire Alarm Cable
 o Boxes, Conduit Bodies, or Fittings
