NFPA 72-2002
------------
The triennial wailing-and-gnashing-of-teeth over 3rd party verification
(3PV) is underway once again. The NFPA 72-2002 ROP includes proposals to
require 3PV of fire alarm systems "where required", which will give
AHJ's the option to use 3PV. The proposals also allow AHJ's to decide
upon which 3rd party to require. You can read the ROP at
http://www.nfpa.org/codesonline/nfc.asp?path=NFPA/ROPROC/nfpa0050-0099/0
072/72-02-roc.pdf%20target=_top.

After drilling down into the ROP, look for the following relevant
proposals:
NFPA 72-19a
NFPA 72-145
NFPA 72-381
NFPA 72-382

The NBFAA position paper against 3PV can be found here
http://www.alarm.org/What_s_New/NFPA_Proposals/nfpa_proposals.html.

What's your position on 3PV?
