Last week I said that "NFPA 72-1999 is not a code in any state I'm aware
of" and was reminded by a well respected Fire Protection Engineer that
plans examiners *are* using it to review plans. I was also made aware of
the fact that the Oregon State Fire Marshal's office will adopt NFPA
72-1999 on 2/1/2002.

NICET(r) Fire Alarm Systems Element 31003 BASIC WIRING

31003 is a General-Core work element.
To achieve Level III certification, you must pass all General-Core work
elements in Level I and II.

Beware of 'Super-Core' Element 31011 BASIC METRIC UNITS AND CONVERSIONS.
To achieve certification at Level II, III, & IV, you must pass 31011.

to other articles within NFPA 70 for requirements of non power-limited
systems; hazardous locations; ducts, plenums, and other spaces used for
environmental air; and other applications.

-->"Select outlet and junction boxes..."
Junction box fill requirements can be found in NFPA 70-1999 370-16(a)
and 370-16(b).

-->"...cable and conduit."
Some information regarding non power-limited single-conductor choices
can be found in NFPA 70-1999 310-13 and multi-conductor choices in NFPA
70-1999 760-30.
Some information regarding power-limited conductors are in NFPA 70-1999
760-61.
Conduit fill can be found in NFPA 70-1999 Chapter 9 Table 1.

-->"Calculate proper wire size and overcurrent protection for the
system."
For non power-limited systems, some info can be found in NFPA 70-1999
article 760-27, 310-15, 402-5.
For power-limited systems, some info can be found in NFPA 70-1999
